VIEW The room faced up the hill to the university and many towers. This was especially great at sunset and provided a fine view with a sundowner. ROOM The room was on the same floor as the little bar (which was fab) and was a superior room. It was a bit small for what we expected but there was a very comfy bed and we slept well. There was a lovely little balcony that we could sit out and have a drink at. HOTEL One of the best things is the rooftop terrace where we sat and had drinks before going out. The views to the old part of town were amazing and this terrace was a stylish and well designed area. The staff could not do enough to help. As we were visiting Coimbra for a triathlon my wife was taking part in, we needed somewhere to assemble and store her bike. There is no parking at the hotel but they do have access to a couple of levels of an underground carpark across the street, and a storage room. There were very accommodating and ensured we had access whenever we needed it. LOCATION The location was very good for access to the main shopping areas and also get to the quaint streets that criss-cross through the old town. There was a great local supermarket a few blocks away and this was easily walkable in 5 mins. The riverside is also only a short walk away and there are some lovely riverside bars and restaurants to visit. The train station is literally around the corner and well connected.

The location is really excellent - at the foot of the hill on the edge of the old town, it's only about 4 minutes walk to the main street with all the restaurants, and the start of the stairs going up to the university. It's a new-ish hotel, fully modernized. We booked a standard room and it was really small with 2 single beds, but when the staff checked there was a somewhat larger room that they moved us to. Not a large room, but OK. Bathroom was a bit small, but had all the modern amenities. It's on a main street, so bring earplugs for the morning truck traffic below. The staff were exceptionally helpful and attentive, and spoke excellent english. They have a free-parking arrangement (in/out privileges) at a garage just across the road. That's excellent, but it is a very challenging ramp system between the floors: up and down traffic use the same ramp (which is extrememly tight, and has several very awkwardly-placed columns)) so there can be some difficult backing-up...one day, we encountered 3 cars coming up as we were trying to go down. Bonus: the rooftop terrace is a wonderful place to wind down the day with a glass of wine, with a full-on view of the old town and the university, Breakfast was standard offerings, but freshly prepared and tasty.

Kris

The hotel is very well located in the old town area by the river. There are a tremendous amount of very nice restaurants close by and it is easy access from there to the college or the surrounding churches that are amazing to see. The staff at the hotel was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the area and took a tremendous amount of time outlining a map and circling things that we should see in a specific order to help us with our day. The parking situation was great with the underground free parking with a hotel stay and we were able to leave our car there the entire next day . The hotel also offers a free breakfast in their restaurant/bar, and it is a very exceptional breakfast for a hotel like this. There is a really nice rooftop patio to sit on where you can also bring drinks up from the bar below. The views are absolutely phenomenal in the evening as you look up the hill towards the college . I would definitely recommend staying here for the location access to all the incredible sites that Coimbra has to offer. It is also great to have a staff that is so welcoming and helpful to foreigners.

Hotel was conveniently located, close to restaurants, shops, & attractions. It offered free underground parking across from the hotel & you are allowed to park temporarily in front of the hotel to unload your luggage & check in before parking in the carpark. It offers a very good complimentary buffet breakfast spread. The breakfast area becomes a drinks counter in the evening. There’s also a comfortable lounge next to it. The best feature is the open air terrace one floor above the lounge with ample seating. The terrace gives a panoramic view of the city. Service by the hotel staff was personal, warm & excellent. Pedro (I think that’s his name) offered me an umbrella when he noticed I was going out in the drizzle without one. Rita was very generous in sharing information, history & stories on the various attractions & of the country. Although the room is small every attention was paid to small details such as embroidered pillow cases, good breakfast selection & making the lounge area comfortable & homely.

Judith

The location was its best feature, which I now realise might sound harsh when you say that the best thing about a hotel is how handy it is to leave it. But it's true! You are at walking distance from just about everything of interest, including great restaurants. It made our short trip much easier. The rooftop had the most amazing view over the city. (I notice a trend here... The outside seems to matter a lot.) The front desk staff was super friendly, the rooms are of a fair size and, most importantly, they were clean (the rooms, I mean, although I would imagine the staff are too). Oh, and there was a reading light! You won my heart with that one. Thank you!
